An incredible Bete-Gere African War Mask from The Cote d' Ivoire. These masks have exaggerated and distorted features such as a large protruding mouth, a bulging forehead, numerous Tusks, nostrils extending to the sides of the face and a high domed forehead with a medium ridge. This type of mask was worn to prepare men for war, the masks offered magical protection by instilling fear and terror in potential enemies.
This is a superb example of a Bete-Gere Mask showing good signs of age and use.
