A Magnificent Kuba 'Ngaady A Mwaash' Mask from the DRC Congo. The abundance of Cowrie shells on this mask show that it could have belonged to a king or rich notable. The Cowrie shells were used as money. It was part of a Kuba Kings treasures. one of three masks, which when danced, evoked the mythical origins and various episodes in the history of his people. These masks were brought out for public ceremonies, especially royal funerals and the initiation of young men
This is a magnificent example of a Kuba Mask and shows good signs of age and use.
