A very rare Salampasu Copper Mask from the DRC Congo. These masks are characterised by a bulging forehead, slanted eyes, a traingular nose and a rectangular mouth displaying filed teeth. This mask is covered with copper plating and has vegetal fibre bells attached to the chin and head. It was used for initiation ceremonies, known as 'Mfuku.' This is a fine example of a rare Salampasu mask showing good signs of age and use. Please see an illustration in 'The Tribal Arts Of Africa' J B Bacquart pg.180
