A fabulous 'Batshioko' Tribal mask from Zaire, Central Africa. This mask is known as 'Mwana Pwo.' There is a cruiciform tribal mark on the forehead and two different ones on the face. The eyes are slits. This mask was used in the 'Makunda' initiation rites. The men wore knitted garments to which were attached artificial breasts representing the maiden (mwana pwo).
