A rare old Double Faced Lega Mask from the DRC Congo. This is a 'Lukwakongo' Mask which portray an ideal Lega man. These masks are normally attached to a specific fence during a initiation ceremony where they are danced through a number of stages - music, singing, dancing and mask manipulation. They are picked up and placed on different areas of the body signifying changes in the symbolic message of the performance.
This is a great example of a Lega Tribe mask showing much signs of wear and use.
