A fantastic Kuyu Statue from the Kuyu Tribe, Gabon. The Kuyu people are divided into two clans whose totemic animals are the snake and panther. They achieve cohesion through a secret male society called 'Ottote.' This figure is known as Okue, which carrys an emblematic animal on its head. These statues are used in Ottote ceremonies. This is a fine example of a very rare Kuyu Statue showing good signs of age and use. Please see an illustration in 'The Tribal Arts Of Africa' J B Bacquart pg. 117
