A Superb statue from the Koro tribe, Nigeria. It is a superbly carved statue and is in great condition.
The Koro Tribe people sculpture anthropomorphic cups that are used for beer and palm wine. These cups are used in sacrificial offerings and second funerals. Second funerals are where after a period after burial, the Koro people celebrate the arrival of the dead in the afterlife. The containers on the stomach correspond to the stomach of a female. The container on the stomach shrinks in the middle resembling the shape of pumpkins which were commonly used as containers for liquids.
